3B Homestead 10th Annual, Living Nativity
For ten years, the Buell family has been opening up their farm to tell the story of the birth of Jesus and the true meaning of Christmas. Hundreds of volunteers help make this message possible, and this year is bigger than ever.
There is now a barn loft with the gifts of the Magi and the star they followed.
Musicians have become a tradition. I forget how long I have played the piano there, but it's something I look forward to every year. This year the Trinity Murdock youth group donated a full-size professional keyboard. It is absolutely beautiful and sounds amazing.
This coming Sunday the Trinity Youth Group will be volunteering at the Living Nativity stations and will be providing the musical talent. Make sure to thank them for their donation.

BOARD MEETING MINUTES
VILLAGE OF MURDOCK
December 2, 2025
The Village of Murdock Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, at 7 p.m. at the Village Hall. Roll call as follows; Dave Nuss, Lee Towle, Michelle Chesnutt, Tom Miner, Justin Holub and clerk were all present.
The minutes from the previous November regular meeting were read. Motion was made by Miner and seconded by Towle to approve the November meeting minutes, and the motion carried unanimously by all members.
The following checks were approved for payment: Windstream/Kinetic ph/int-488.50; OPPD elect.-874.15; Cass Co. RWD#2 606,000 gals-3333; St of NE PHE Lab water test-15.00; Ashland Gazette/Column Software, PBC publishing - Nov. Mtg Minutes-115.53; Faubion mileage/reg.wat. - 211.77; R.Stroy payroll-1549.86 (Electronic Payment); Ashland Disposal Service garbage-2,909.77; Black Hills Energy-gas service-57.45; Zito Media-Internet-61.00; R.Stroy-Village of Murdock-2nd Line/Service-45.89; JEO construction services 2nd St project 3,277.50; Amazon–Printer Ink-179.32 (Electronic Payment); Frontier Coop-diesel-82.35; Napa Bobcat parts – 270; Eagle Casey’s-fuel $29.54-error-correction will show up on Jan Stmts; Tom Miner-Troubleshoot, Repair & Service Bobcat 9-1/2 hrs-873.12; David Nuss-snow removal, repair plow & mileage for water samples-303.96;
The following discussions/updates were held concerning old business.
James Burton with Burton Asphalt attended the meeting. There has not been a start date established for the projects he contracted with the Village for. He does have equipment in the school parking lot as of the date of this meeting. He did make his apologies for being this late in the year, to start the project. Now that Winter has arrived, he suggested the Village wait until Spring to begin. The Village Board Members each discussed their opinions regarding Burton. Chesnut commented that there was very little communication from him and that each time a start date was not met, he never contacted anyone to reschedule and then silence again, the repeated over & over. Miner advised that with the lack of commitment from Burton he felt that Burton Asphalt should refund our 2 deposits in full. Towle discussed the lack of trust the Village of Murdock has with his company and he too would like our deposits returned. Miner made a motion to have 100% of both deposits refunded by January 1st, 2026. Towle seconded the motion. Carried unanimously by all members. Burton Asphalt will be sent a Certified Letter detailing this information.
Pavers (Contractor) for the 2nd street project was also discussed. Most of the construction has been completed, however, they have more to complete in the Spring. There are some subgrade issues, and a change order is needed to address them. Prior to moving forward, a Change Order has been requested from JEO/Pavers. Miner made a motion to approve the $21,499.80 in additional funds. Hulob second the motion and all members were in favor.
Pavers Inc. has submitted their Contractor’s Application for Payment. The total contract price is $147,498. However, $17,333.28 will be retained until construction is completed in the Spring. Total owed at this time is $130,164.72
Holub mentioned again that the EMCA could help finish up the rest of the street signs, in the spring, that need replaced in Murdock that are missing or broken.
Several streetlights are still out on the East end of Nebraska St. A 3rd fix-it ticket was submitted & they should be responding soon.
Village Board may investigate finding a new qualified street engineer for 2027 other than our current provider. No action is taken currently. Our current engineering firm’s contract doesn’t expire until 12/31/26
Holub and helpers added the snow fence to areas around Murdock. The Village Board appreciates everyone’s efforts to make this happen.
Just a reminder that if you are NOT using Auto-Debit / Auto-Pay for your town Utilities, the Village would like to encourage you with an incentive. Current users of the Auto-Debit / Auto-Pay feature will also be receiving a $25 Bonus on the newest billing that was just mailed, as a thank you!
In addition to the incentive, there will also be a penalty for anyone who is 2 months or more past due on their Murdock Utility bill. After 2 months of nonpayment & one of the Village Board members needs to either come to your home to remind you, or to turn off your water, there will be an additional $100 automatically added to the next billing.
New Business:
Alleyways were the next topic. Arguments were heard from both sides on various issue, by residents attending the board meeting. Issues being some alleyways are grass & not traveled. Others feel that all alleyways, including the ones that are not used, should be maintained. Arguments against one issue are that no one drives on them now, so adding rock and plowing snow are not needed. Others want alleyways to have rock over the current grass. Miner mentioned that ALL alleys do need to be at least passable so that emergency personnel can have access in case of emergencies, as well as utility work that may need alley access. No alleyways in the Village of Murdock have been permanently closed. They may not be used but are still considered an alleyway. The current Ordinance for Municipal Property: Maintenance and Control was read aloud. A motion was made by Holub to table this topic until the next meeting Jan. 6th, 2026 meeting. Miner seconded the motion. Chesnut abstained. Towle approved.
Jeff Backemeyer with the Elmwood-Murdock School Board brought up the topic of concern about the water supply & whether the Village Board has investigated the infrastructure. One issue with this is when water mains break the entire town’s water supply is shut off. Towle discussed an option to have shut off valves in the 4 quadrants of town. Therefore, alleviating all from having the water supply shut off in the incidences. The Board will reach out to their street engineer JEO to investigate and costs.
Grants for Infrastructure will be pursued; however, our town’s Median income is greater than the threshold to be eligible to receive them.
A question was asked about the costs that we’ve incurred for the 2 water main breaks that the Village has recently had. Lovell Excavating is the company that has performed the work on both main breaks. The estimate is around $2,500 total.
Andy Stock, who was not present, discussed with Chesnut about the dirt that was piled up against Waverly Road to help with erosion. In the Spring this area will need to be graded correctly & seeded.
Holub discussed several options for snow removal. One suggestion is that we look into a Box Plow. Miner didn’t feel that was a good option. The other option is to keep a small service kit on hand to maintain the plow truck and keep it in service when needed. Everyone agreed a kit would be necessary.
Miner has been in touch with BlackStrap Salt Supply to purchase salt and distribute to the streets that are in need of ice removal.
Towle made a motion & requested that the Board move to Executive Session. Miner seconded. The Board Entered Executive Session Time: 9:00pm. Discussion was regarding a Board Member. Exited Executive Session Time: 9:45pm. Towle motioned to Exit Executive Session. Holub Seconded.
There being no further business, the motion was made by Miner and second by Chesnut that the meeting close and the next regular meeting will be Tuesday Januray 6th, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Murdock Village Hall, Motion carried unanimously by all members.
