MINUTES
VILLAGE OF MURDOCK
JUNE 6, 2025
The Village of Murdock Board of Trustees met on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 6.30 p.m. at the Village Hall. This meeting was a rescheduled meeting as Chairman, Dave Nuss was called out of town immediately prior to the original meeting date Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Roll call as follows; Jake Wilson, Dave Nuss, Lee Towle, Michelle Chesnutt, Rosetta Stroy and clerk were all present.
The minutes from the previous May regular meeting and the May 14th special meeting were both read. Motion made by Chesnut and seconded by Stroy to approve the minutes and the motion carried unanimously by RCV.
The following checks were approved for payment: Windstream ph/int-487.68; OPPD elect.-822.30; Cass Co. RWD#2 819,000gals-4504.50; St of NE PHE Lab water test-15.00; Dana Cole & Co. LLP services.fiscal.budget/financials-3400.00; JEO final design#2-3518.75; Column Software, PBC publishing-145.75; Murdock Rural Fire Dept. June paymnt-7500.00; J. Faubion post./reg wat. Oper.-182.70; J. Barnes payroll-1086.62; Mowen Own Lawn and Garden, LLC mowing-250.00; Ashland Disposal Service garbage-2864.97; St of NE Dept of Revenue April sales tx-105.63(Electronic Payment) St. of NE Dept of Revenue May sales tx-129.49(Electronic Payment).
The following discussions/updates were held concerning the old business; Second Street project was discussed concerning a more defined definition of administrative fees provided by JEO that was requested by Chairman Nuss. An Amendment #1 to the Agreement of professional services for the project was accepted and signed by Nuss. Chesnut inquired about obtaining a loan from Corn Grower’s State Bank and informed the Board of repayment options. Jake Wilson motioned to borrow 110,000 to help cover the cost of the Street projects and this would allow for funds to be available if needed, for major maintenance issues that may arise in the future and every day operating expenses of all Funds. Chesnut second this motion and it passed unanimously with all members voting in favor of.
The Board continued the old business discussion concerning the work that was contracted with James Burton that was to begin by April 15th concerning the patchwork needed on Nebraska Street and other areas on the streets within Murdock. Both Nuss and Stroy have been in contact with Burton numerous times concerning multiple start dates that were pushed back due to equipment failure. The Board agreed that legal action will be taken if there has not been any show of work to begin by July 1. 2025. Burton will be reminded of the July 4th celebration and his work will need scheduled accordingly to not interfere with the festivities.
The alley way culvert on 4th St between Colorado and Nebraska was again discussed as the culvert is still plugged. If the Bobcat was running, it could be used to clean out the ditch. James Burton was another option for cleaning it out but has not begun work in Murdock.
In new business, Lee Towle made a motion to get an estimate for a service call to fix the Bobcat to get it back into good running condition so it can be used. Jake Wilson second this motion and all members voted in favor of by RCV. Towle will contact Bobcat of Omaha for the estimate and inform the Board of the costs involved.
Jacqueline Barnes submitted a letter of resignation of her duties as Clerk/Treasurer to the Village Board Members on May 14, 2025, effective 30 days from that date. Also included in the letter of resignation was the agreement to assist in acclimating the next individual chosen for this position. The Board has begun the replacement process and will be accepting resumes for review. Barnes requested from the Board the consideration of full salary pay for the entire month of June to cover the transition time for the incoming Clerk/Treasurer. Chesnut motioned to accept this request. Wilson second the motion and it passed unanimously by RCV all members voting in favor of.
Rosetta Stroy informed the Board that she has been in contact with the League of Municipalities in reference to updating the Municipal Code Book. More information will be obtained concerning this process.
There, being no further business, motion was made by Stroy and second by Chesnut that the meeting close and the next regular meeting will reconvene on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at the Murdock Village Hall and it carried unanimously by RCV.

Emergency Meeting Minutes
Village of Murdock
June 11, 2025
An emergency meeting was called by the Village Board of Trustees on June 11, 2025 at 5:30p.m. at the Village Hall to appoint an interim Clerk/Treasurer who will accept the duties necessary to continue daily operations of the Village until a candidate is permanently appointed to fill this position.
Roll call as follows: Dave Nuss, Jake Wilson, Michelle Chesnut, and Rosetta Stroy were all present. Lee Towle was absent.
Discussion was held concerning this topic. Rosetta Stroy read a letter to the Board members requesting her resignation as a Village Board member, term ending in December 2028. The resignation would be effective immediately on June 11,2025. Michelle Chesnut motioned to accept the Village Board resignation request from Stroy. Jake Wilson seconded the motion. This passed by a unanimous decision with all members voting in favor of the resignation.
Stroy then requested the Board to consider appointing her as the acting interim clerk beginning June 14, 2025, until the vacancy has been filled. Michelle Chesnut motioned to accept Stroy’s request to fill the interim Clerk/Treasurer position. Jake Wilson second the motion and it passed unanimously with all members voting in favor of by RCV.
There being no further business, motion to adjourn meeting was made by Wilson, Second by Chesnut. All voted in favor of.

Entry fees go as a fundraiser for the Murdock Historical Society (Murdock Museum).
