It's Not Too Soon to Think About the County Fair

2018 Cass County Fair books will be available in May, but start thinking about the Special Contests entries now. We have the BEST County Fair in the State, hands down.

Not only is it a totally free fair, but there is something for everyone.

You just can't do and see everything. Start practicing your appetizers, snickerdoodle cookies, pumpkin pies now. It's a lot of fun to sit and watch the judging in the Open Class Building and the crowd gets bigger and bigger every year.

Work to Begin on N-63 Alvo North Realignment

March 15, 2018 (Lincoln, Neb.) — Weather permitting, work is scheduled to continue the week of March 19 on N-63, between Alvo and I-80, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Knife River, LLC of Sioux City, Iowa has the $11,758,926 contract. Work will include realignment of N‑63, culverts and box culverts, and wetland mitigation. This will be the second of two phases of work.

During this phase, N-63 will be closed to traffic from Reference Post 4+20 (Alvo) to Reference Post 9+68 (Church Road). A marked detour will be in place along I-80 to N-66 to N-50 to US-34 for southbound traffic and along US-34 to N-50 to N-66 to I-80 for northbound traffic. This portion of the project is anticipated to be completed in November 2018.

The Department’s project manager is Jesse De Los Santos of Lincoln. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through work zones and along detours.

Welcome to a new section of the Elmwood and Murdock weekly news. Senator Rob Clements will be submitting a regular summary of what is happening in the Nebraska Unicameral.  If you ever wanted to know how Nebraska is run, how decisions are made he is the one to ask.

Updates from the Legislature merged

News from the Capitol

By State Senator Rob Clements

The Legislature wrapped up the 2018 Session April 18, passing two dozen bills on its last day. I am pleased that we were able to solve the budget shortage with spending controls without raising taxes. Nebraska’s overall economy appears to be stabilizing, but our agricultural sector is still suffering.

I was also glad we were able to pass LB 1090 and LB 738. An important bill was LB 1090 which adjusts Nebraska income tax code to match the benefits of the 2018 Federal reductions. The Nebraska standard deduction is raised to $6,750 single and $13,500 married filing jointly. In addition, there is a tax credit exemption of $134 per person.

The income tax brackets, standard deductions, and exemption credits will be indexed annually using the Consumer Price Index.
LB 738 makes Social Security benefits tax free if your federal adjusted gross income is under $58,000 jointly, or $43,000 single. These amounts will be indexed in the future.

LB 902 allows government entities to keep records private regarding firearm registration, possession, sale, or use. They still must make the information available to law enforcement agencies if requested. This helps protect Nebraskans from the abuse of these records, which has happened in other states.

LB 1120 adds “bottle clubs” to our liquor control laws. Private bottle clubs have been operating outside of our liquor control act, avoiding laws applying to sex trafficking, prostitution, and underage drinking. The new liquor license will allow the state to monitor these clubs.
It creates a 300-foot buffer around college campuses and universities and requires a list of club members be available upon a court order.

Thank you again for your input throughout this legislative session. I look forward to being back in District 2, and I hope to meet more of you.
As always, I really appreciate hearing from you on important matters.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or my staff for information or assistance.

You may reach me at Senator Rob Clements, 1523 State Capitol, Lincoln, NE 68509 (402-471-2613), or at my email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
