Murdock Nebraska News

NL Dawn 08312016Thank You For Your Support

Thank you for the show of support on my last newsletter. I hope to keep meeting your expectations now and for the future.

There are some amazing people in our communities doing amazing things near and far and in this edition I'm going to highlight a recent Elmwood-Murdock graduate who is living his dream.

Did you know there a published author living in Murdock?

Maybe we have more famous people than we realize? Murdock people really get around and personally I think it's kinda fun to brag about our small town. People get really interested, especially when I tell them it's only a town of less than 300 people.

I'm constantly surprised at how many people know where Murdock is and either have relatives here, or have eaten at Bulldogs.

Don't forget to keep sending me the following...

  • Church News & Suppers
  • Community Potlucks (you know it's getting to be that season again)
  • Birthday Announcements (Card showers are still fun)
  • Murdock History or Trivia
  • Lions Club News & Events
  • Did You Know? (Did you know this or that about here or there in town)

Your help is not only greatly appreciated but NEEDED. Please send any articles, updates, photos etc to me by Sunday at 4PM via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Ebenezer United Methodist Church

IMG 8562 300Thank you to Ramona Oehlerking for sending me the news and updates on the Methodist Church in Murdock.

For many the Methodist church is just an over flow parking lot for school events, and a place to get a pop in town. But did you know that the proceeds of the pop sales go to the youth group?

This past summer they received a new Pastor and she goes by Pastor Ra. I will arrange to interview her in the next few weeks and formally introduce her to the newsletter community near and far. She is anxious get get to know people in the community and has plans to introduce new events and activities.

A "Christ the King Sunday" celebration on November 20th and Prayer Walk around Murdock are just a couple.

In the words of one parishioner "She is quite a lady!  Very educated and full of life"

Annual Market to Market Relay Race

October 8 - 9:15 am

The exciting Market to Market Relay Race is coming soon and the youth group of Trinity Lutheran Church is participating by volunteering and using this as a fundraiser.

We need volunteers on 310th Street to hand out water, direct traffic and show small town hospitality. Our exchange point takes a lot of volunteers as we have to direct/control traffic on 310th St, get the next runner ready fro their team exchange and watch for runners crossing the road.

Sign up to volunteer here Just click for a "ticket" and select Exchange Point 10

Teams of runners will leave from Lincoln and race to Omaha. Are they nuts? Maybe, but it's a lot of fun to watch, many are dressed in costrumes.

The youth groups receives a donation and you get a free hat and a fun day with friends.

Murdock Historical Society & Museum

One of the things that surprises many people is the quality of the Murdock Historical Museum. I want to thank Dale Vanderford for allowing me to pull historical tidbits from their Facebook page.

Did you know at one time Murdock had a Murdock Sports, Inc., formed by several couples from Murdock. They refurbished an old school bus and drove to all Nebraska's home and away games in the late 60's and early 70's.

Does anybody remember the "Little Red Bus?"

Murdock Author - Steve Bruttig

9781683529149medOne of the benefits of writing this newsletter is finding out more about my community and staying in touch with people. In updating the Elmwood Library news I learned that they just obtained a book by a Murdock author Steve Bruttig.

He is a member of the Nebraska Writers Guild and his book "First and Foremost" has just been released and is available to check out at the Elmwood Library.

I will try and get an interview with him in the future.

The Elmwood-Murdock Football team has kicked off their season with gusto! Thank you in advance to all the parents, students and fans who cheer them on each week.

Here are the statistics for the 1st three games of the season for those sports statistics junkies.

Did you know that Elmwood-Murdock Varsity Football games can be watched live on STRIVE TV.

Obviously it's best if you can make it to a game, but if you live out of town and still want to cheer on the Knights you can do so from the comfort of your living room, or any computer.
