EM Spirit Squad Brings It Home from Branson!!

Cheer pre trip 1

 Cheer pre trip 2

The Elmwood Murdock Knights Spirit Squad along with their sponsor spent the weekend at the Universal Cheer Association Camp in Branson, MO.  They are coached this year by Casey Clements who was awarded the designation of “Best Coach” at camp.  The Spirit Squad earned three gold ribbons, one blue ribbon, Top Banana, 1st place in Sideline, 2nd place in Xtreme Routine, a Superior Trophy, the Leadership Plaque, three Pin-It-Forward Award winners, two St. Jude's Pins, and three All-Americans.

All-Americans are selected to try out based on superior cheerleading, dancing and leadership skills at camps across the country. Only the top 10% of the more than 325,000 cheerleaders who attend the 5,000 Varsity summer camp sessions earn the chance to march in the holiday spectacular in London. Elmwood Murdock's Spirit Squad had 3 of our Cheerleaders selected during our camp in Branson, MO!

America Needs Cheerleaders! The Pin It Forward program promotes all the values encouraged through cheer, like leadership, spirit, commitment, kindness, and motivation. We can't forget all of the great benefits of cheerleading and the positive ways it affects our lives such as becoming physically fit and healthy, gaining confidence, being involved on campus and in the community, and becoming all-around better athletes.  Here are how the awards are chosen:

1.Staff Selects Cheerleaders to be Pinned -- Each staff member will look for a cheerleader who demonstrates one of the reasons America NeedsCheerleaders. An instructor may notice a cheerleader encouraging her team to do their best in stunt class, helping a cheerleader from another team with the new cheers, or going out of the way to make someone smile. Each instructor will give a pin pack to the camper they selected.

2. Cheerleaders "Pin It Forward" to Other Cheerleaders -- Immediately, the "pinned" cheerleaders start looking for a cheerleader on a different team that exemplifies all of the reasons why America Needs Cheerleaders. The next day, those “pinned” cheerleader will tear their pack in two and give the second pin in their pack to a cheerleader on a different team who did something extraordinary such as helping another team carry their bags, helping an instructor pass something out, or always leading her team in cheers.

Our first recipient was Senior Shailee Hayek. She was chosen by the staff as the first Pin It Forward winner during camp on Day 2.  On Day 3, Juniors- Tatum Munhall and Kabrianna Mumford were chosen by fellow Cheerleaders from other squads for the amazing example they were giving during camp.

Music Man

“76 Trombones” and 53 Actors Star in Meredith Willson’s

“The Music Man” on Lofte Stage!

Manley, NE [July 5, 2016] The Lofte Community Theatre near Manley announces it will be showcasing the Meredith Willson’s classic, “The Music Man,” starting on July 22.  Winner of five Tonys in 1958 including Best Musical and best Actor and Actress, “The Music Man” is the tale of smooth-talking Harold Hill.  He arrives in River City, Iowa to pull-off his tried-and-true scheme of cheating the community with a scam to equip and train a boys’ marching band.  However, things go awry when he falls for the town’s lovely librarian and inadvertently enriches the town with a love of music.

The Lofte last visited “The Music Man” in 1978.  At that time the Born-in-a-Barn players were working out of a renovated barn with no air conditioning and outdoor bathrooms.  Now 38 years later, audiences and the fifty-three member cast have the luxury of  a climate controlled theater space that seats over three hundred!

Playing the sly Harold Hill is Lofte newcomer, Chris Berger of Louisville.  The lovely Marian the librarian is played by Catherine Bobst of Lincoln.  Matthew Hansen of Papillion plays Harold’s old friend Marcellus.  Greg Leger of Omaha and Brenda Jones of Louisville play the River City Mayor and his wife.  Little Winthrop (Marian’s cute little brother) is played by newcomer Jude Glaser of Papillion.  Artistic Director Kevin Colbert has selected a group of the region’s best acting and vocal talent from far and wide to round-out the cast.

Production dates for the show are July 22-24, 28-31 and August 5-7.  Thursday through Saturday curtain times are at 7:30pm.  All Sunday performances are 2pm matinees.  All seats are reserved and cost $19 each.  The Lofte Theatre is offering special discounts to groups of 25 or more.  Tickets are available online at Lofte.org or by calling the box office at 402.234.2553.

FYI...local connection...Rick Clements and his grandson Drake are in the cast for The Music Man at the Lofte Theater, Manley, NE.  Dates are July 22,23,24; 28,29,30,31; Aug. 5,6,7.  Show times are 7:30pm and 2pm Sunday.  Jeff Johnston and former Elmwood resident Wade Mumford are also in the musical.
The Lofte phone number for reservations is 402-234-2553, Box office is open 9am to 12pm, or leave a message and they will return your call.   Website: http://www.lofte.com/
