 EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN

Rural Route Rust Vintage and Handmade Market set for April 16th

Avoca, NE— “Don't throw the past away, you might need it some rainy day.”  This classic song lyric from the musical All That Jazz is true both in life and in home decorating, as shoppers at the Rural Route Rust Vintage and Handmade Market on April 16th will discover.

Using vintage pieces or reimagined antiques in the home or garden continues to be one of today’s hottest decorating trends.  Examples include organizing with antique wooden boxes, making a statement light fixture out of a piece of farm equipment, or simply planting flowers in a rusty wheelbarrow.   Decorating magazines, Pinterest, and television shows like Fixer Upper and Flea Market Flip demonstrate this trend.

Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm, 911-108th Street, rural Avoca, NE is the home of the Rural Route Rust Vintage and Handmade Market.  Fifty-five vendors from five states will showcase vintage goods and furniture, antiques, primitives, art and handcrafted gifts.  The historic farm, which hosts a pumpkin patch festival each fall, features a two-story barn filled with vintage goods, farm animals, kids’ play areas, and food tents and trucks to service hungry shoppers.  “This fourth-annual market will be our biggest and best yet,” said owner Teresa Lorensen.  “These top-notch vendors have been collecting and creating all year and are ready to send you home with fun and unique decorating pieces, Mother’s Day gifts, and even plants and fresh flowers!”

Show hours on April 16 are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Admission is $3.00 for ages 12+.  Parking is free.

Lofte’s 40th Season Opens With ‘The Christmas Spirit'

Manley, NE [March 23, 2016] -  When the Lofte opened its doors in 1977, no one could have imagined that forty years later local talent would still be treating southeast Nebraska residents with great theater productions.  2016 marks the ruby jubilee season for the community theater that is nestled in the middle of a corn field.

Frederick Stroppel’s ‘The Christmas Spirit’ is Artistic Director Kevin Colbert’s “Director’s Choice” and on April 8, it kicks off the year with a witty adult comedic drama.  Don’t let the title fool you.  This production has less to do with Christmas and more to do with one’s spirit.  Julia Dowding (played by Weeping Water resident Margie Pinkerton) is visited by the Grim Reaper (Kevin Colbert, also of Weeping Water) on Christmas Eve.  After Death is persuaded to give Julia one more day on earth, she invites him to be her guest at the Christmas festivities.  Masquerading as a human, Death mingles with bickering relatives, friends and the local priest.  He even partakes of eggnog and other party delicacies.

The cast includes Brandy Hall and John Bell of Papillion; Shari Hoelker, Dan Ryberg and Doug Rothgeb of Omaha; Shelia Snell and Andrew Schell both of Lincoln.  Please be advised that while there are some funny scenes in the play, there are serious topics of conversation that are not suitable for young children.  Director Kevin Colbert suggests that this play be rated PG-13.

Performance dates are April 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16 and 17.  Show times Thursday-Saturday are 7:30pm.  Sunday performances are 2pm matinees.  Reserved seats are $19 and can be purchased by calling the box office at 402-234-2553.  The Lofte is located just 1/4 mile east of Manley, NE.
