In Case You Missed It...
So, What is a GAGA BALL PIT?
I'm sure if you have been reading the newsletter you have seen the flyer about the Gaga Ball Pit. And I'm sure you are wondering just what in the world is that. Well, if you have kids in junior high or high school chances are they have played gaga ball in PE Class. Pat Wray, PE instructor, has had the kids play this before and has found that they really enjoy it. It is quite the rage in other parts of the country and many communities are installing one.
Reilly Kuenning, a freshman at Elmwood Murdock is a Life Scout from Boy Scout Troop 360 in the Seven Feathers District of the Cornhusker Council in Elmwood. As he started to plan his Eagle Scout project he thought about the Elmwood Park and wondered if a Gaga Ball Pit would work there. An Eagle Scout project is the opportunity for a Boy Scout, Varsity Scout or qualified Venturer in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to demonstrate leadership of others while performing a project for the benefit of his community. He did some research to see what it would take to build one and then made a presentation to the Elmwood Village Board of Trustees to see if they would approve his suggestion of building one in the park. The project was approved!
Reilly is seeking donations of some or all of the materials to build the Gaga Ball Pit on the old basketball court in the Elmwood Park. Monetary donations are also appreciated! The Gaga Ball Pit will be a favorite of kids of all ages. Once it is installed there will be a grand opening with a demonstration on how to play. People can form teams and there will be a tournament!
You may have seen the donations cans around town. Throw your spare change in and help the future Eagle Scout achieve his goal! In the process you will be helping to bring a new game to the park.

Honored by the Capitol City Footprinters Chapter #44 was Spencer Conradt - University of Nebraska Lincoln Police Department, Amy Meier - Lincoln Lancaster County 911 Communications Center, and Jacob Blunt from Elmwood - Nebraska State Patrol.
The Capitol City Footprinters Chapter #44 was chartered in 1968 and has presented dispatcher awards since 2005. The chapter is the eastern-most organization among the nation's Footprinters chapters. Jacob Blunt had been a Nebraska State Patrol dispatcher for just a year when Pilger, Nebraska, was devastated by a twin tornado on June 18, 2014.
Just a month prior to the tornadoes, the Nebraska State Patrol had consolidated dispatcher centers, broadening the responsibilities of the Lincoln center to include the northern Nebraska area where the tornadoes had hit.The added coverage area includes Norfolk and a significant portion of the northern half of the state.
Blunt's ability to help coordinate rescue efforts was exemplary, officials said.
"Mr. Blunt not only met the challenge of this responsibility, but took the extra steps to learn about and get to know the troopers from that area," said Acting Colonel Thomas L. Schwarten, Assistant Superintendent of Law Enforcement and Public Safety for the Nebraska State Patrol.
Blunt -- also a volunteer firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) -- was one of three dispatchers honored at an April 11 dinner in Lincoln sponsored by Capitol City Footprinters Chapter #44.
