candy cane lane

Last year the Merchant’s Association donated $400 to the Elmwood-Murdock Backpack Program thanks to the generosity of visitors to Candy Cane Lane and the extremely talented and generous elves who made all the wonderful candy and goodies for sale. Be sure and stop by Candy Cane this year and enjoy some more of those delicious treats and help out a local worthy cause at the same time. All proceeds from this event stay in the community to help purchase Christmas gifts for local children – Operation Santa. Can we top last year's donation???

 Saddness Befalls Our Communities

The communities of Elmwood and Murdock join in offering sympathies and prayers to the family of Ashli Kae Brown.  Ashli joined her friends in heaven last Friday and is rejoicing and dancing with Dillon, Tyler, AJ, Jake, and Jesse.  I'm guessing Mike Stubbendeck is singing Karaoke with her at this very moment.  Ashli graduated from Elmwood Murdock in 2011 and was just starting her life when it was cut short.  No amount of words can offer comfort to her dad, Mark, stepmother, Teri, and brother Cody, her mother, Kayce, and her many, many friends.  Ashli was a beautiful girl with a voice like an angel.  Her smile and laugh was contagious and brings a smile to my face just thinking about her.  Ashli was Millie's best friend all through school so we have many wonderful memories of spending time with her.   I would rather Ashli be here with us right now but she is singing with the Angels and waiting until we meet again.

A memorial fund has been set up at the Corn Growers State Bank in Murdock under the name, Ashli Kae Brown Memorial, if you would like to donate.

 friends for life

Millie wrote this poem for Ashli.

We’ve been best friends from the start,
 Making memories, and breaking hearts.
We thought we were cool, who needed school?
We were a team, ready to rule.

As you lay your head to rest,
I think about your very best.
Your laugh, your smile, your bright blue eyes,
Your lovely voice had us hypnotized.

I don’t know what I’m sorry for,
You’ve touched my heart, plus many more.
Your spirit passes through my veins,
I feel your love, you heal my pain.

Now you’re flying high in the sky,
Making sure we heal, and not cry.
We love you so much, words can’t explain,
We’ll never forget your precious name.

Ashli was an angel taken too soon,
She was a flower starting to bloom.
Now she’s with God, finally home,
Where her free spirit can finally roam.

As I grow older I will live my life
Whether a friend, a mother, or a wife,
With a song in my heart and your love, too,
I will live happy, just for you.
