Singin' in the Rain
Manley, NE [July 6, 2012] - While the weather here in Nebraska is hot and dry, things are cool and rainy down at the Lofte Community Theatre in Manley. A new group of volunteer actors, actresses and orchestra members are hard at work on the familiar old tale, "Singin' in the Rain."
The MGM Classic film which starred Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds has been converted into a stage play. It's the funny tale of a silent film production company in 1920s Hollywood that is making the difficult transition to sound. Heartthrob Don Lockwood (played by Adam Kovar of Lincoln) and Lina Lamont (newcomer Petra Whittier also of Lincoln) are an on-screen romantic sensation. Don's smooth voice transitions nicely into talkies, but Lina's voice . . . well, even after working with a professional vocal coach, she still has a long way to go.
The big surprise in this show? The Lofte is going to make it rain on stage. That's right, folks. We invite you to come enjoy a little bit of rain. Forget the heat while you sit in a nice air conditioned theater, drink a soda pop and enjoy the sights and sounds of 1920s Hollywood.
The production is directed by Kevin Colbert. Musical director and orchestra conductor is Betty Colbert. The beautiful costumes are designed and built by Janet Sorensen. Elmwood and Murdock residents starring in the production include Anna Bornemeier, Lizzy Pegler, Aaron Spracklin, Ross Mumford, Wade Mumford and Alyssa DiPaolo.
"Singin' in the Rain," opens Friday, July 20 and runs July 20-22, 26-29 and August 2-5. Curtain times are 7:30pm Thursday through Saturday. All Sunday performances are 2pm matinees. Tickets for adults are $18, and children are only $10. Call 402.234.2553 to reserve your seats today.

The Hynes are almost ready to move into their new home on the outskirts of Murdock. This week one more Hynes has been added to the clan.
If you would rather buy than build in Murdock here is a beautiful home for sale! Near the school, too!
The Wabash Cemetery on 310th Street is an interesting place to explore.
Another new home has gone up in the country between Elmwood and Murdock. It is a beauty!

Lincoln, NE – July 12, 2012- The Cass County Creative Cats 4-H Club from Cass County has been selected as the 4-H Club of the Month for the month of July by the Nebraska 4-H Ambassadors and Nebraska 4-H Foundation. 4-H clubs from throughout the state of Nebraska nominated themselves by explaining why their club should be Club of the Month. Stories about community service projects, trips to museums and other fun activities were shared.
The Cass County Creative Cats 4-H Club has 38 members involved in the community service. Our club provides a petting zoo for our school’s Fall Festival each year and also provided a petting zoo for Elmwood’s 150th birthday celebration. Our club also participated in a 4-H showcase at a nursing home, we decorate our senior center for the holidays every year, and this year our club made pioneer-inspired holiday items and decorated a room at the Bess Streeter Aldrich House for their Journey Into Christmas celebration. We also bake and decorate cupcakes on Bess Streeter Aldrich’s birthday so the museum can serve them to their guests. Our club supported the Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk for the past few years, walking with Ben’s Brigade to support one of our future 4-H Club members with Down Syndrome. This year, Ben’s Brigade also had a float and children’s games in our local 4th of July celebration. The Cass County Creative Cats have cleaned up our local cemetery before Memorial Day and we make pillowcases and soup jars, and fill backpacks with school supplies for our county’s Care and Share Program. The Nebraska 4-H Foundation and Nebraska 4-H Ambassadors are proud to call the Cass County Creative Cats 4-H Club of the Month for July 2012.
The Nebraska 4-H Ambassadors together with the Nebraska 4-H Foundation provide the 4-H Club of the Month program to all Nebraska 4-H clubs throughout the state. Clubs can nominate themselves by telling why their club should be chosen as Club of the Month. A different club will be chosen each month and will be awarded with a certificate and $50 cash card. For more information go to the Nebraska 4-H Foundation website at http://www.ne4hfoundation.org/events/4-h-club-of-the-month or e-mail
