Bring your little ones to a special 2:30 seating to celebrate Halloween and all its magical charm.  Come in costume, bring a broom and learn about Halloween traditions, make believe fun and dancing.  We will have lots of sparkly and pretty things to decorate your broom with.  Fly around the garden while bubbles drift from caldrons.  This is perfect for girls ages 2 to 16 and their families.  We support women of all ages and build traditions and memories for generations.  Full meal, art and fun-$12.96 each.

Visit the haunted library jail on Saturday, October 29th from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Auditorium for our Halloween party.  We will be making "Cemetery Cups" with cookie tombstones, gummy worms, and devilish pudding to enjoy with our "Rotten Apple Punch".   We will also be playing games and enjoying spooky storytime with those brave souls who dare to enter.  Bring your "Get Out of Jail Free" card, you may need it to be able to go home. The party is for free for kids in Preschool to 4th grade.   Registration is preferred, but not required.   Please call the library at 402 296 4154 to make reservations for this howling good time! Otoe County Genealogical Society’s meeting information for the month of November: “The Otoe County Genealogical Society will hold its November 10th meeting at 7:00pm at the Unadilla Community Library at 770 G Street in Unadilla, Nebraska. Our guest speaker will be Roy Smith of the Cass County Historical Society who will discuss the history of Cass County Cemeteries. All are welcome to attend.”

AUDITION NOTICE


Manley, NE [October 13, 2011] - The Lofte Community Theatre will be holding auditions on Monday, October 24 and Tuesday, October 25 at 7pm for their upcoming holiday production, "A Christmas Survival Guide."  Director Kevin Colbert is looking for two men and three women.  Specifically, one of the men needs to be a good pianist and singer.  Age range for all roles is 25-55 years. 


The play is a revue taking a humorous look at the stresses of the Christmas season.  Armed with a copy of "A Christmas Survival Guide," the characters charge into an urban holiday landscape searching for the true essence of Christmas.  In songs and vignettes, they learn to cope with the season in ways that are both hilarious and heartwarming.  The production will run Dec 3, 4, 9-11 and 15-18.

The Fifteenth Annual Schoolhouse Fiddling Bee in Avoca, Nebraska, was enjoyed by all on Sunday afternoon, October 9, downstairs in The Old Avoca Schoolhouse in Avoca, Nebraska.

Musicians from Dunbar, Eklhorn, Omaha, and Weeping Water competed.

In the Open Division, each fiddler played a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice.  The winners are:

First Place - Pete Fucianaio, Omaha, NE
Second Place - Fiala Peters, Omaha, NE
Third Place - Jim Harvey, Omaha, NE

In the Singing Division, each fiddler played and sang a tune at the same time.  The winner was Hanila Vankirk, from Omaha, NE.

In the Fee Fi Faux Division, each musician played a fiddle tune on an instrument that was not a fiddle.

First Place:  Sarah Kopsa, guitarist, Elkhorn, NE
Second Place - Jacob Hansen, guitarist, Weeping Water, NE

In the Hocus Pocus Division, fiddlers played one "magical" fiddle tune, using cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.

Third Place - Jacob Hansen, Weeping Water, NE

Next year, the 16th Annual Schoolhouse Fiddling Bee will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2012.

Championship fiddler and fiddle book author, Deborah Greenblatt, will discuss various ways to perform that classic fiddle tune, Orange Blossom Special.  This wonderful piece encourages improvisation, giving the fiddler opportunities to make their fiddle sound just like a train.   The Workshop takes place on Saturday, November 19, 2011, 1 PM - 3 PM, in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse, Avoca, Nebraska.  Pre-registration is required, enrollment is limted, and there is a $20.00 fee.  For more information, or to register, call 402-275-3221, or send an e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. "Scary Stories Told Here" at the Elmwood Public Library, 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 31.
