MINUTES
VILLAGE OF MURDOCK
March 11, 2025

The March 4, 2025 Village of Murdock Board Meeting was rescheduled to March 11, 2025 due to the winter storm/high wind weather warnings predicted during the meeting time.

The Village of Murdock Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Hall. This meeting was Roll call as follows; Jake Wilson, Dave Nuss, Lee Towle, Michelle Chesnutt, Rosetta Stroy and clerk were all present.

The minutes from the previous February meeting were read. Motion made by Wilson and seconded by Chesnut to approve the minutes and the motion carried unanimously by RCV.

The following checks were approved for payment: Windstream ph/int-487.43; OPPD elect.-1172.21; Black Hills Energy gas serv.-311.26; Constellation Energy gas serv.-721.44; Ashland Disposal Service garb.-2864.97; Cass Co. Old business was updated beginning with the street maintenance projects. A proposal was submitted by Burton Ashpalt, LLC for the deteriorating areas on the streets that would be ground, removed and new asphalt applied, rolled and seal coated. The previous estimate by Parking Area Maintenance would be in need of outsourcing parts of the process to another company would not support a 5 year plan. After much discussion, Michelle Chesnut motioned to accept and sign the two separate bids from Burton Asphalt, LLC. Nebraska Street-30,000 25% down payment and “Other Streets -25,000 25% down payment. Rosetta Story second the motion and all members voted in favor of the proposal(s). James Burton said work will not begin until April 15th, 2025. Burton stated that all vehicles, running or inoperable must be removed from the streets, otherwise Burton Asphalt will tow the vehicle at the owners expense in order to proceed with the work to be done. Letters will be mailed to all residents, and businesses to bring awareness to this matter.

The Second Street project that was tabled since 2024 was discussed. JEO had prepared the Second Street project plan that was headed by Scott Hrabik, Street Engineer. Rosetta Stroy motioned to move forward on the project to begin this Spring, also. Michelle Chesnut second and all members voted in favor of by RCV. The bid sheet estimate to fully repair Second street from Nebraska St. to 75ft. East of Atlantic St. is 164,250. JEO will begin moving forward into the bidding phase.

The Snow Ordinance that was re-written was read for the first time. There were minor changes that needed to be made to the wording and a revised version will be read again at the April meeting.
Hanna Peterson and Mary McHugh attended the meeting to discuss building the Murdock Community Association. The need for more volunteers, and project ideas to benefit the community has now become reality and would like to have the Board reach out to the group for any ideas or suggestions to grow on. The group is also interested in sponsoring a “town cleanup” day using a large haul off dumpster. More information is being sout out for this possible event.

Brief discussion concerning the County Jurisdiction for Building codes, operation of off-road vehicles codes, and possibly contacting NERWA for information on adding shut off valves for sections of the water lines. All items will be possibly considered in the future.

Update was given for the non-compliance issues found at the waste water ponds. The area has been mowed but weather has not been cooperative for trimming woody vegetation and bringing in fill dirt for the rodent holes. The last two items will be completed by the Board when a date is agreed on and weather conditions are favorable. The State will be notified by letter as it is an ongoing process to be finished soon.

There, being no further business, motion was made by Towle and second by Wilson that the meeting close and the next regular meeting will reconvene on Tuesday April1, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at the Murdock Village Hall and it carried unanimously by RCV.

Local Student Makes History by Qualifying for FCCLA National Leadership Conference
By Kate Stock & Erin Hynes

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a student organization that helps young people develop leadership skills, prepare for careers, and make a difference in their communities. One of the most exciting parts of FCCLA is the STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) events, where members compete in different categories to showcase their talents and hard work.

One type of competition is the Online STAR Events, where students create and submit digital projects. The Chapter Website STAR Event challenges members to design a website highlighting their school’s FCCLA chapter, including its activities, goals, and achievements.

This year, Quinn Ross made history by becoming the first student in Elmwood-Murdock FCCLA Chapter history to qualify for the FCCLA National Leadership Conference (NLC) in the Chapter Website STAR Event! Their website stood out for its creativity, design, and detailed information, earning them a spot in the national competition.

The National Leadership Conference will take place this summer in Orlando, FL, where students from all over the country will gather to compete, learn, and grow as leaders. We are incredibly proud of Quinn for this amazing accomplishment and wish her the best of luck at NLC!

COME ON OVER!

This is how country music started out, with acoustic instruments, before electricity. People sat out on the lawn, on the porch, or in a friend’s house and played their instruments together.

Enjoy the originality of music which is still present in many circles of friends.
