Fall in Murdock

Thanks to Linda Glantz and the Murdock Pride Group for decorating Main Street and inspiring others to decorate their homes with pumpkins and decorations.
Mark your calendars for the CHRISTMAS IN MURDOCK event which is always the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Meet at the Town Hall at 10 AM. Every effort will be made for each organization to be invited to send two volunteers from your group. Individuals are absolutely invited to participate as well. Each Christmas tree needs to be transported from the old fire hall to across the street, secured to the post, and lights put on some. Many hands make light work.
Groups and individuals are once again invited to sponsor a flower planter to decorate for the season.
It can be something very simple to elaborate…your choice. Be sure that it is something which is securely placed due to our strong winds which sweep down Main street. This can be also be done at your convenience the week before Thanksgiving.
If you wish to reserve a certain planter, please secure a note on that planter.
Take down of Christmas trees and wreaths will be the Saturday following New Year’s Day.Seasonal planter decorations may be removed whenever the volunteer chooses.
Thank you to all who have in the past and present support MURDOCK PRIDE by volunteering for events to bring smiles to all who pass through downtown. You have MURDOCK PRIDE!
For questions, you may contact Linda Glantz 402-867-3251.

FBLA New Business Partnership
In the United States, approximately 14% of adults are illiterate, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Illiteracy isn’t as vast in the United States as it is in other countries around the world, but it is still a problem facing our nation’s future. It is this same problem that has motivated Elmwood-Murdock’s Future Business Leaders of America Chapter to learn more about illiteracy and what we can do to stop it.
Members met with the Elmwood Library Board to establish a partnership for the 2017-2018 year to promote the library and literacy among elementary students. To launch the project, members helped with the library’s summer reading program. Members would sign up for two hour shifts and would go to the library every Wednesday in June to read to local elementary students.
On September 22, FBLA members hosted a “reading in the streets” event at the Aldrich House in Elmwood. Around 120 first through fourth-grade students were shuttled to the house and were sent to different stations to hear FBLA members read different books and help them participate in different activities related to the books. In addition, the high school members dressed up as the storybook characters to help the stories come alive.

At the end of the event, students then learned about Mrs. Bess Streeter Aldrich, the significance of her house, and how she pertained to the reading event. Students also received one free book of their choosing donated by Bits and Pieces Thrift Store in Elmwood.
The FBLA chapter hopes this project increases the interest in reading among elementary students.

The ELMWOOD-Murdock fan of the week is designed to honor those members of the E-M community who give their time, talents and support to E-M programs. This year’s super sponsors of the Fan of the Week program are Corn Grower's State Bank, Mick’s Diesel Repair, Pyramid Roofing, Security First Bank, Spohr's Landscaping and Witte Physical Therapy.

Tonight’s Fan of the Week is Kristin Boucher. As expected, Kristin is very supportive of her twin sons and our football program but what puts Kristin above and beyond is her endless support of our VB and Cheer programs as well. Kristin attends almost every VB game, has traveled to support the Spirit Squad at our cheer competitions and has even used her own time and money to make custom shirts for the Spirit Squad.
Thank you to Kristin for all your enthusiasm and your willingness to Cheer Loud and Cheer Proud for the Knights.
10th Annual Dance and Cheer Showcase
The Spirit Squad will be performing at the 10th Annual Dance and Cheer Showcase at Millard North on November 5th.

The 1st annual Fresh Hop Festival shines a light on beers made with fresh Nebraska hops. These beers are seasonal, fresh and delicious.
