*'Twas the month before Christmas, when all through our land,*
*Not a Christian was praying, nor taking a stand.*
*See the PC Police had taken away, the reason for Christmas - no one could say.*
*The children were told by their schools not to sing, about Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.*
*It might hurt people's feelings, the authorities would say, December 25th is just a "Holiday"*
*Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit, pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!*
*CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod, something was changing, something quite odd!*
*Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa, in hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.*
*As stores were hanging their trees upside down, at most shops the word Christmas - was nowhere to be found.*
*You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.*
*Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty, are words that were used to intimidate me.*
*At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter to eliminate Jesus in all public matter.*
*And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith forbidden to speak of salvation and grace*
*The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded, the reason for the season, stopped before it started.*
*So as you celebrate "Winter Break" under your "Dream Tree", sipping your coffee, listen to me.*
*Choose your words carefully, choose what you say*
*Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holiday!*

Knightstars Summary vs. Arlington
The 8th grade Lady Knight’s basketball team defeated Arlington by a score of 34-21 in Twin River basketball on December 2nd. The girls played a very aggressive game on offense and were able to get a lot of easy shots and offensive rebounds that allowed us to build a 20-10 halftime lead. The first half we did a good job of boxing out a much taller Arlington team and only gave them one shot each time down the court. We needed to do a better job in our 2-3 defense of defensive rebounding and securing the ball once it touches our hands. Good job girls.
Leading scorers: Erin D – 15, Megan S – 10, Alyssa B – 3, Shannon R – 2, Jordan B – 2, Shannon M – 1, Sidney B – 1

Lady Knights game summary vs. Ralston
The 8th grade girls Twin River team defeated Ralston by a score of 45-21 on Sunday, December 9th. The girls got out to a very fast start to lead 16-0 halfway through the 1st quarter. They played a very good man to man defense and were able to get a lot of steals, which lead to easy baskets. On offense we moved the ball very well, and were really unselfish and that led to some great field goal attempts. The girls led 27-11 at half-time and continued to play hard, and outscored Ralston at every quarter break, to win the game by 24 points. The girls did a real good job of playing aggressive. They took the extra pass and that allowed them to get some real good shots and unselfish play. We still need to do a better job of boxing out and being able to finish shots in the post. Good Win.
Leading scorers: Megan S – 16, Alyssa B – 10, Erin D – 9, Shannon R – 4m Shannon M – 4, Lizzy P – 2

SCHOOL FOOD DRIVE
We are again asking for parents and students to donate non-perishable food items to our local food pantry. Students may begin bringing food items to school on Monday, December 3, 2007. We will collect food items until December 14, 2007. If we collect 1,500 items at each school, we will dismiss early on December 20, 2007. We are currently scheduled to dismiss at 3:25 p.m. If we meet our goal we will dismiss at 1:15 p.m. Cash may also be donated. One dollar is worth four food items.
JUNIOR ACHIEVMENT PROGRAM NEEDS PARENT/COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS
Information has been sent home regarding Junior Achievement’s Elementary School Program. The Elementary School Program teaches students in kindergarten through sixth grade, basic economic concepts through hands-on activities. The volunteers (who teach the lessons) are the key to the program’s impact in the classroom.
We are seeking parent/community volunteers that are willing to share their time, 30 to 50 minutes once a week for five visits, to enhance the students’ understanding of the local economy. In addition, the volunteers will inform the students how school relates to their future. The curriculum is offered free of charge to the school by Junior Achievement. We are planning on beginning this program in February. An informational/instructional meeting is scheduled for January 24, 2008 for people that volunteer for the program Please contact, Principal, Bruce Friedrich, if you have any questions or would like more information about the program.
S.O.S. Participating in the Our Family Labels for Learning Program
We are all aware of the increasing difficulty schools face in acquiring sufficient funds to provide the necessary educational and extra-curricular materials needed for our children. Budgets today simply cannot keep up with the high cost demands. Our area grocery stores have the same concerns we do about providing a quality education. That is why they have introduced the Labels for Learning program.
Area stores participating in this program are No Frills, Jack and Jill, Food Pride, Bag-n-Save and Sunmart. During 2007 through July 2009, they will donate 5 cents for every Our Family product barcode that you purchase and turn in. A collection area is currently being set up at the elementary school in Elmwood.
For every bundle of 500 UPC barcodes collected the Elmwood-Murdock SOS will receive $25.00. The SOS will then be able to use this money to help supply the needed materials for our school. This program is so simple because Our Family is so popular. Did you know that 22,000+ Our Family products are sold each week? Collecting the bar codes adds up quickly. We encourage you to save "Our Family" barcodes to help Support Our School.
Earn a Barcode While Making Your Whites Sparkle
Did you know that automatic dishwasher detergent makes a wonderful bleaching agent for white clothes? Simply fill your washing machine with the hottest possible water for the fabric you are working with and add ¼ cup to ½ cup of automatic dishwashing detergent. Agitate for several minutes and then add clothes. Soak for 30 minutes or even overnight. Then add detergent and launder as usual. If you don't want to use your washer, you can also accomplish this technique with a bucket. Fill a bucket with the hottest possible water for the fabric and add 2 tablespoons of automatic dishwashing detergent. Soak as directed above. Dump into the washer and launder with your detergent as usual. By using the Our Family brand of automatic dishwasher detergent, not only will you be getting sparkling whites, but you will be earning a barcode for the elementary school.
