Inspiration

"Autumn"
Just wanted you to know it's Autumn
The time of falling leaves
Even tho' Winter's coming
And for some, this season grieves

But for me, I LOVE the Fall
The cooler, crisper days
The signs of Summer's passing
And time to change, some ways.

We'll put away the summer things
Looking forward to Festivals too
Without the Summer heat
The sky seems a brighter blue!

New Holidays are coming
With CHRISTMAS at the end of the year
Simple anticipation now
Brings everyone some cheer!

So, enjoy these pretty days
The smell that Autumn knows
The colors all so vibrant
Bringing end to all that grows.

Look forward to the next season
GOD gave us all four you know
So enjoy each one as it comes
Too soon, it too will go!

What’s Happening Around Our Community

“The 2008 team will always be remembered as the first Elmwood-Murdock team to reach 11 wins in a season.”
Coach Schmale

Thoughts from one of the players, Nick Beebee.

When I walked into check out my pads and uniforms this summer for football I thought this was the end of the Elmwood-Murdock dominating era. I saw eight seniors, three juniors and a bunch of freshman and sophomores. We went to Wayne State football camp and were pretty successful even against schools bigger than us. After returning from Wayne I maybe saw a little light. Conditioning came around and you could tell the underclassmen really needed to work a little harder. Before I knew it two-a-days were here and I thought to myself, “I’m in for a long ride.” We practiced for about three weeks and before we knew it Palmyra was our first game. The team traveled there and got business done. After observing what happened that night I thought we will be ok, this isn’t the end of the Knights era. The Knights went through some rough times. We traveled to Fremont Bergan, a team us seniors have never beaten. We stayed with each other through the whole game and came out on top 7-0. After this win I saw what we really were made of. I thought we really do have a chance at playing in Lincoln. The next six weeks went by so fast; we finished only the second regular season undefeated in school history. The only other team to do it was in 2004 when our seniors were freshman. After the win on Friday October 24, 2008 we went to the parking lot like usual and hung out… talked about the game etc. Not knowing this would be the last time the Knights would play with three important people, Tyler Eggart, Dillon Synovec, and A.J. Washington. These three died two days later on October 26, 2008 in a horrible car accident. I have never seen so many people come together for each other. The team was in shock and couldn’t believe it. They thought of every possible thing to do to honor these three amazing people. The only thing we could come up with was playing for them, leaving everything we had on the field, and we ordered stickers with their numbers and A.J. We placed these in a form of a cross on the back of our helmets and wore them the rest of the way. We finished the season 8-0 winning the Cass County championship, and the District Championship for the ninth straight year. In the first round of the playoffs we play Nebraska City Lourdes. Before the game we honored Tyler, Dillon, and A.J with a moment of silence and carried Tyler and Dillon’s jerseys on the field. The Knights played through distress and emotions and pulled out on top. After the game we new they were all looking down on us saying how proud they were of us. It was the most emotional win in Elmwood-Murdock history. Second round we picked up Ponca. The Knights came out smoking and rolled the Indians. After the game Dan Novak came to the huddle with the team and said “those first twenty two minutes of the first half were the best minutes of football that he has seen in twenty five years at Elmwood-Murdock.” This meant so much to us him saying that. Third round we picked up a third straight home playoff game and a chance to make school history. Elmwood-Murdock has never had eleven wins in school history. Forty eight minutes later against Loural Concorde history was made. The Knights won and were on there way to a rematch with Fremont Bergan. One win away from playing in Lincoln. Only the second time in school history to ever make it to the semi finals in the state playoffs and the most unlikely team to do it did it. The Cinderella story came to an end on November 15, 2008. The Bergan Knights came out on top 18-7 and ended any chance of E-M winning what could have been their first state championship in football. Looking back on the season is really hard for the eight seniors. They had to listen to all the talk around about how they aren’t going to be any good and they will be the first loosing team in god knows how long their rival is going to beat them (Weeping Water) etc. The Seniors came through this season closer than they ever were. Jon Luetchens, Austin Barnes, (captains) Tyler Schmale, Nick Beebee, Derek Stubbendeck, David Neels, Jordan Vogt, and Justin Waites are the eight seniors leaving this year. They saw everything from controversy, to heart break, loosing teammates, to school history. The only thing I think they would change is getting that 12th win so they could fulfill a dream and play in Lincoln.

Theatre To Perform Nebraska Premiere of Forever Plaid Tidings

The TADA Theatre, recent recipient of the Downtown Lincoln Association's Impact Award, will present the Nebraska premiere of the holiday hit, Forever Plaid Tidings opening December 4th.

In this new holiday sequel to the mega-hit Forever Plaid, Jinx, Frankie, Smudge and Sparky, (The Plaids) young male crooners from the '50s who usually reside in heaven, are called back to Earth to stage a nostalgic holiday extravaganza. The group tune their heavenly harmonies on holiday songs and carols, along with a hilarious tribute to The Ed Sullivan Christmas Spectaculars featuring the Rockettes, the Chipmunks and The Vienna Boys Choir. Topping it off is the boys’ spirited montage, A Plaid Caribbean Christmas, which puts the “Day-O” in Excelsis!

Since Its recent release, Plaid Tidings is growing in equal popularity with its predecessor, Forever Plaid, after having made its premiere at the Pasadena Playhouse. Forever Plaid was performed in New York in 1990 and now is one of the most popular musicals produced internationally. Both shows were written by Stuart Ross. “Plaid Tidings, the Christmas version of the popular musical Forever Plaid, is a perfect show to get you into the mood for the holidays.” – Las Vegas Sun

Playing the roles of the Plaids are Steve Pearson, Alex Walker, Bret Olsen and Buddy Miller. The production is directed by Robert D. Rook with musical direction by Cris Rook, scenic design and stage management by Eric Underwood, and accompaniment by Denis V. Plutalov.

Forever Plaid Tidings is on stage for three weeks only December 4-7 / December 11-14 / December 18-21 with curtain times at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $18 (Thu.- Sat.) and $15 (Sunday matinees). Tickets can be reserved by calling The TADA Theatre's box office at (402) 438-TADA (8232) or on-line at www.tadatheatre.info. Patrons are encouraged to bring donations for the Food Bank of Lincoln for this production.

The new TADA Theatre is located in the beautiful Creamery Building at 7th & P Streets in the historic Haymarket district of Lincoln, Nebraska. It features a Main Stage that plays host to the musicals and full-length theatrical productions that patrons have come to expect from TADA. With close parking, a grand lobby, and amenities for patrons and actors, this intimate, crowd-pleasing theatre is operated by its parent company TADA Productions, Inc., a recipient of the 2006 Mayor's Arts Award that also produces the productions at the new location.

This show is brought to the stage with generous support from Wayne's Body Shop. For a production photo or interviews with the cast or production staff, please contact 402-438-TADA (8232) or showinfo@tadaproductions.info.

On Nov. 8th Elmwood-Murdock High School hosted its first ever scrap bookers crop, called Scrappers Marathon. A crop is when scrap bookers get together and spend time working on their scrapbooks. In attendance were 19 Scrap bookers with numerous High Schoolers busy making money for extra-curricular activities. We began at 9AM and carried on happily until Midnight.

There were classes in Power Scrapping and mini classes in embossing and using shrinky dinks in your scrapbooks. To keep up everyone’s strength we had Brunch, a dessert bar and supper. The current plan is to do it again in March. Keep your eyes open for info on when. That would be a good time for parents of seniors to start getting ready for graduation. Hope to see you there. Thanks, Cindy H
