Happy 16th Birthday Megan Scholting!
Megan’s best birthday present was winning the 4th consecutive ECNC volleyball championship!
Coaches Comments: Senior fullback David Todd rushed for 89 yards on 26 carries scoring 2 touchdowns while Kevin Zoz was 7/11 passing for 104 yards and rushed for 85 yards on 12 carries scoring 1 touchdown in the Knights 20-7 win over Weeping Water in a rain / lightning delayed District V contest last Friday night in Weeping Water. The game was delayed for over an hour after two quarters. It’s difficult to keep momentum going when you have a delay like that, but player safety comes first and the administration made a good decision. We moved the ball well at times and had some good drives. Weeping Water has a physical football team and gave us some problems with some of their blitzes. We worked on picking up blitzes all week and at times we didn’t do a very good job handling the blitzes. Our ability to throw the ball got us some key first downs and I thought our drive at the end of the 1st half to go up 14-0 was important considering the weather conditions. Defensively, I thought we did a decent job controlling their running game. We knew they would make some plays. Weeping Water does a good job spreading the field in their passing game. The Knights take on Louisville for the District V Championship next Thursday. Game time is 7:00 p.m. in Elmwood. (Thanks for sending this in, Coach Schmale!)
2007 Elmwood-Murdock Jr. High Volleyball Season Ends
On Thursday October, 11th the Elmwood-Murdock Jr. High volleyball season ended with the girls playing against Nebraska City Lourdes. The season was very successful with the A-Team having a record of 6-2 and the B-Team having a record of 7-1, while the C-Team finished with a 4-3 record.
Coach Pete Vavak and Ashley Dean were extremely proud of the girls and their efforts. Two goals at the beginning of the season were for the girls to have fun playing volleyball and learn some of the skills and tactics involved in playing at a higher level of volleyball. The coaches report that both goals were met.
The coaches and the girls want to thanks all the parents for their support during the volleyball season.
(Thanks, Coach Vavak, for sending this in!)

Megan Scholting prepares for the spike against Weeping Water during the Elmwood-Murdock Booster Club

Hannah Fischer and Claire Thoeming are in sync as they team up for a block.

Two Weeping Water players attempt to defend Claire's slam but are unsuccessful.
The Lady Knights won the ECNC Conference tournament for the 4th year in a row against some very stiff competition. The road went through highly rated Mead in the semi-finals and C1 power Johnson County Central, in the finals. Against JCC, the Lady Knight overcame a 2-1 deficit to win the 4th and 5th game. Many Lady Knights stood out as it was a total team effort. Megan Bober lead the Lady Knights with 21 kills, 7 ace blocks, 12 set assists and 2 ace serves. Middle hitter, Sierra Ronhovde, lead the Lady Knights in the crucial 4th game with 8 digs to force the final 5th set. She also had 10 kills along with 2 ace serves. Setter Alli Kulhman had 18 set assist mostly by finding ways to give Megan Bober the ball on the right side. Megan Scholting's serving kept JCC out of system enough so that their high powered offense could not run a peak efficiency. She served 23 times at 100%. Claire Thoeming had 5 ace blocks and solid serving in the 5ht game while Mallory Buck handled most of the difficult serves of JCC to keep the Lady Knights insystem. She also played solid defense with 8 digs.
