Inspiration
Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room. They were given a small space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied, "Things aren't always what they seem". The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest. When the sun came up the next morning the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field. The younger angel was infuriated and asked the older angel how could you have let this happen? The first man had everything, yet you helped him. The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let the cow die. "Things aren't always what they seem," the older angel replied. "When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it." "Then last night, the angel of death came for his wife. I gave him the cow instead. Things aren't always what they seem." Sometimes that is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should. Trust that every out come is always to your advantage. You just might not know it until some time later...
Third Time’s a Charm! A winning score of 55-0 for the third consecutive week for the Knights.
Coaches Comments: The Knights started the game with a 12 play 65 yard drive. David Todd scored from 5 yards out giving the Knights a 7-0 lead with 6:52 seconds left in the 1st quarter. That’s the way we wanted to come out and start the game, utilizing ball control, run some clock, and execute our offense. David Todd started the scoring and would continue to run through the Clipper defense with excellent blocking from the offensive line. Derek Stubbendeck, Alex Ulmer, Austin Barnes, Clay Carlton, and Aaron Stewart opened up some nice holes for our backs. Todd would go on to tie an Elmwood-Murdock school record with 5 TD’s and 30 points. The previous record was set by Brandon Minch in 2003 and Tyler Rosenow in 2006. David Todd ran with a lot of determination and toughness tonight. He hits the hole quick and breaks tackles. It’s hard for one defender to bring him down. I was pleased with our balance on offense. We rushed for 202 yards and passed for 134. I thought our defense played an outstanding game. Our defensive coordinator Dave Novak designed a different alignment for this game and several new blitzes that took away Malcolm’s running game. The players executed the plan very well holding the Clippers to 40 plays from scrimmage and 66 yards of total offense. The Knights defense recorded a shutout for the 4th straight week. The Knights have an open date Sept. 28 and return to action Oct. 5 against Palmyra. The game at Elmwood will be a Homecoming contest for the Knights.
Congratulations to the E-M Knights Volleyball team for their victory over Weeping Water last Thursday!

Coaches Corner from Coach Vavak
The Elmwood-Murdock Junior High volleyball team recently hit the half-way point of their schedule and the results are very good. The A and B teams participated in a tournament and defeated Louisville before losing to Syracuse . The girls battled hard against a very good Syracuse team, but lost in the third set.
Coach Vavak reports that he is seeing improvement in the most important aspect of volleyball: the girls are discovering a keen sense of understanding to the roles that are needed for successful volleyball. The girls are beginning to understand that volleyball is a very intellectual game that asks each player to accept their role, refine their role and trust the other players around them Everyday is a learning experience as they prepare to play in the high school for the Elmwood-Murdock Knights.
The C, B and A teams travel to Cedar Bluffs on Thursday September 27. Good Luck!
