image004Hit, set, attack!

Alyssa Brown prepares for a hit as Louisville serves to the Elmwood-Murdock ‘B’ team last Tuesday at home.  Lauren Bowman waits for the spike as Shannon Melo anticipates the attack.  All three teams did a fantastic job at their first competition.

Coach Vavak reports:
“The Jr. High girls began their 2007 volleyball season in a positive way getting wins against Louisville in back-to back matches. The Elmwood-Murdock squad is comprised of 22 girls and the squad is divided into three teams. The teams are coached by Ashley Dean and Pete Vavak. The coaches report that all three teams played very well in the opening matches. The coaches report that practices have gone and the girls are very enthusiastic about learning to play volleyball. With four weeks left in the season and six matches, the team looks to improve and the individual girls look to improve their volleyball skills. Go E-M Junior High Volleyball!!!”

Coach Moline and Coach Barnes run through plays with the junior high team prior to their first game against Yutan.

Little League Football-Two Down, Two To Go
Coach Dwyer comments on this year’s season:
“The Elmwood-Murdock 3rd and 4th grade Youth Football League has 22 team members this year. The boys have been practicing hard since August 21st. They practice on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays for an hour and half. Their season consists of 4 games, played on Sundays at 2:00 pm. They have made great improvements, despite being not as big as some of the players on the other teams. We have good speed and also are improving our techniques in tackling and blocking.”
Below is the schedule and results to date:

September 9 vs. Johnson County -- Won 16-6
September 16 vs. Weeping Water -- Won 38-20
September 23 at Palmyra
September 30 vs. Syracuse

Third Straight Shut Out By the Elmwood-Murdock Knights Varsity!

Coaches CommentsDavid Todd rushed for three touchdowns and Kevin Zoz was 9/11 passing for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Zoz also rushed for two touchdowns in the 2nd quarter.  Trent Shrader caught 6 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns.  Shrader had a 57 yard interception return for a touchdown in the 3rd quarter.  We got off to a quick start as Tri County threw an interception the 1st play from scrimmage.  We capitalized on the mistake when David Todd scored a touchdown two plays later.  We wanted to come out and strike quickly especially on the road.  It was Tri County’s Homecoming and we wanted to take their crowd out of the game as soon as possible.  I was proud of the way our team came out ready to play.  Our defense did a great job stopping Tri County’s option game.  We had to assign a defender to the fullback, QB, and pitch back every play.  The defense carried out their responsibilities the way we practiced and it paid off.  I thought our offensive and defensive lines controlled the line of scrimmage.  The defensive line never let Tri County’s option game get on track.  The Knights travel to Malcolm next Friday.  Game time is 7:00 p.m.
