Once again, weather affecting the Murdock Community
Extreem heat temperatures forced early dismissal both the first and second day of school.
High winds, lightning, thunder, and heavy rain came quickly Monday evening around 7 pm. I did not hear of any power outages in our area, but Omaha had over 22,000 homes without electricity. KETV channel reported 6, 200 cloud to ground lightening strikes around the viewing area.

There’s no doubt the Murdock area will once again be cleaning up fallen branches and debris after Mother Nature.

Did any of you see the full double rainbow that came after the storm? Anyone know what promise God gave represented by the rainbow? I wonder if the double rainbow has any more significance…

GOING BACK TO SCHOOL
Did everyone survive the “going back to school” routine? Waking up early, doctor, dentist, and eye appointments; trying to get that summer vacation in; shopping-purchasing new shoes, book bags, school supplies, sports paraphernalia, etc. Anyone have the growth spurts we experienced here at our household? I think between the three kids we grew between six and eight clothes sizes!!
How ‘bout those of us with children (I guess at this point, they’re not really children any more) who are going off to college for the first time or going back to college? Any of you experience ‘that feeling’ that sits right there in the bottom of your heart?
Or, those of you who sent off your little one to their very first day of school? That might bring a tear of two to the eye… but not from the kindergartener J
I know some of us have transitioned into the ‘no more elementary kids’ phase. I noticed several of you at the 7th grade orientation that have moved onto the junior/senior high school. You could see it on Nancy Luetchens face as she said, “my baby (is growing up)”.
There might be some of you who couldn’t wait for the day to get here! What a relief to get into a regular routine and not have siblings arguing or listening to that famous, “I’m bored” one more time, huh?
Any of your parents tell you things like: “enjoy them now; they’ll be gone before you know it”? Or, when they’ve just started kindergarten: “they’ll be graduating high school soon”, or “next thing you know, they’ll be off to college”. Sometimes parents are right! It’s amazing how life changes and the seasons that we go through. The end of summer has made me think about it just a little bit more.
This poem was in our church bulletin this last Sunday. Thought I’d share it with you:

School Is Starting
See the yellow school bus
Coming down the read,
Stopping here and stopping there,
Picking up its load.
See the saddened mother
Blinking back a tear,
Condemned to peace and quiet,
For another long school year.
–Corinne Adria Bariteau—

Here’s another one:
School days are the happiest days of your life—as soon as the kids are old enough to go!
