High winds and heavy rains blew through the Murdock area last Sunday causing power outages, trees down, and crop damage. Winds gusting up to 70 miles per hour laid these stalks of corn nearly flat to the ground.

Inspiration
Saint Theresa's Prayer
May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

Some information you’ll find at this site:
The Elmwood Murdock Schools have a strong academic reputation. Top-quality teaching, strong community support and young people with the determination to learn has kept this school system at the top of local educational systems. But now there are key needs that must be addressed to keep this program as a first-class school. Aging facilities, overcrowded classrooms and outdated resources impact the school — reducing the quality of education and often sending teachers and students to other school systems. There is a smart, cost-effective solution to upgrade the elementary and high schools. It makes the most of the current facilities through renovation and expansion. And it lays groundwork for future growth. The school administration, staff and a community committee worked together to find the best, most fiscally responsible solution to continue the tradition of quality education at Elmwood-Murdock Schools. This is our children’s school. This is everyone’s issue. We want you to support a Bond Election – Vote Yes for Kids!

What’s Happening Around Our Community

Two fund raisers sponsored by American Legion Post 247 are planned to help support the
Elmwood G.A.R. Hall Military Museum:

The first is the third annual Ice Cream Social which will be held at the G.A.R. Hall on Sunday evening, August 19th from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. There is no program planned for the evening, just an opportunity to enjoy ice cream and desserts, socialize, and view the museum.
The second event is a golf tournament (hopefully “first annual”) at Grandpa’s Woods, on Sunday afternoon, September 23rd starting with a 3 p.m. shotgun start. We will conclude the evening after 9 holes of tournament play with hamburgers, hotdogs, brats, salads, and desserts. Call Grandpa’s Woods at 994-2100 or Bonnie Brewer at 994-5315 to register.
If you are not a golfer but would still like to participate in that event, please join us for the meal to be served shortly after 5 p.m. on September 23rd.
Stop by the G.A.R. Hall on Sunday evenings this summer (through Labor Day) from 6:30 - 8:30 - you might be pleasantly surprised at what you will find!
