Inspiration
Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car. Bills travel through the mail at twice the speed of checks. A conscience is what hurts when all of your other parts feel so good. Opportunities always look bigger going than coming. Junk is something you have kept for years and throw away three weeks before you need it. Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.

Pictured-"Vern Lau and his grandson, Austin, are pictured here relaxing last fall after Austin's favorite birthday meal of McDonald's French fries. Austin turned 11 years old and celebrated the day with his grandparents, Vern and Dorothy Lau, and his parents, Loren and Shelly (Lau) Miller."

Pictured-The EM Band traveled to Nebraska City for District Contest on Friday and Saturday of the 20-21 of April. The students represented the EM Band at an outstanding level with a Superior Rating in the Concert Band and Jazz Band. The second day of contest our small groups performed at District Contest with three superiors and two excellents. Our Flute Duet (Jessica and Sierra), Clarinet Duet (Samantha and Alyssa), and Flute II Duet (Staci and Molly) earned Superior ratings. Our Trumpet Duet (Scott and Tom) and Flute/Clarinet Duet (Sierra, Madi, Hannah, and Brittney) earned and Excellent rating. We were very pleased with everyone's performance during contest and continue to expect great things from the EM Band program.

Pictured-2003 Elmwood-Murdock graduate, Brian Beebee, attended a formal recognition ceremony at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Thursday, April 26, 2007. Brian was among 169 students out of 5,000 who were chosen to receive a scholarship.
All scholarships were made possible due to the generosity of nearly 80 donors. Award consideration was based upon academic performance, financial need, whether the student has other scholarships, participation in extra-curricular activities, and service to the University through student organizations, among other factors. Over $190,000.00 was distributed during the ceremony.
Mother’s Day is just around the corner! Here’s a good story:
JUST A MOM?
A woman, renewing her driver's license at the County Clerk's office was asked by the woman recorder to state her occupation. She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself. "What I mean is," explained the recorder, "do you have a job or are you just a......?" "Of course I have a job," snapped the woman. "I'm a Mom." "We don't list 'Mom' as an occupation, 'housewife' covers it," said the recorder emphatically. I forgot all about her story until one day I found myself in the same situation, this time at our own Town Hall. The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised, efficient and possessed of a high sounding title like, "Official Interrogator" or "Town Registrar." "What is your occupation?" she probed. What made me say it? I do not know. The words simply popped out. "I'm a Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations." The clerk paused, ball-point pen frozen in midair and looked up as though she had not heard right. I repeated the title slowly emphasizing the most significant words. Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement was written, in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire. "Might I ask," said the clerk with new interest, "just what you do in your field?" Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice, I heard myself reply, "I have a continuing program of research, (what mother doesn't) in the laboratory and in the field, (normally I would have said indoors and out). I'm working for my Masters, (first the Lord and then the whole family) and already have four credits (all daughters). Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities, (any mother care to disagree?) and I often work 14 hours a day, (24 is more like it). But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers and the rewards are more of a satisfaction rather than just money." There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk's voice as she completed the form, stood up and personally ushered me to the door. As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous new career, I was greeted by my lab assistants -- ages 13, 7, and 3. Upstairs I could hear our new experimental model, (a 6 month old baby) in the child development program, testing out a new vocal pattern. I felt I had scored a beat on bureaucracy! And I had gone on the official records as someone more distinguished and indispensable to mankind than "just another Mom." Motherhood! What a glorious career! Especially when there's a title on the door. Does this make grandmothers "Senior Research associates in the field of Child Development and Human Relations" and great grandmothers "Executive Senior Research Associates"? I think so!!! I also think it makes Aunts "Associate Research Assistants".
Have you ever seen a WATER bridge over a river?
WATER BRIDGE… OVER A RIVER!!!

Even after you see it, it is still hard to believe! Water Bridge in Germany .... What a feat! Six years, 500 million euros, 918 meters long.......now this is engineering! This is a channel-bridge over the River Elbe and joins the former East and West Germany, as part of the unification project. It is located in the city of Magdeburg, near Berlin. The photo was taken on the day of inauguration. To those who appreciate engineering projects, here's a puzzle for you armchair engineers and physicists.
Did that bridge have to be designed to withstand the additional weight of ship and barge traffic, or just the weight of the water?
Answer: It only needs to be designed to withstand the weight of the water! Why? A ship always displaces an amount of water that weighs the same as the ship, regardless of how heavily a ship may be loaded.
