Inspirational Tidbits
It is easier to preach ten sermons than it is to live one.
The good Lord didn't create anything without a purpose, but mosquitoes come close.
When you get to your wit's end, you'll find God lives there.
Opportunity may knock once, but temptation bangs on your front door forever.
Quit griping about your church; if it was perfect, you couldn't belong.

The Elmwood-Murdock Lady Knights 7th grade girl’s basketball team competed in the Lincoln YMCA MIT tournament on March 10-11. The girls were placed in an 8 team bracket and played at sites around Lincoln. The first played the Lincoln Storm and defeated them by a score of 37-7. In the semifinals, they played the Norfolk White and won by a score of 32-17. On Sunday in the championship, they played Falls City and had a very close game, but won in overtime 20-18. The girls played good basketball all 3 games and continued to improve on their game. The 7th grade girls finished the season with an impressive 18-4 record.

The Elmwood-Murdock Lady Knights 9th grade girl’s basketball team competed in the Lincoln YMCA MIT tournament on March 10-11. The girls placed 3rd in bracket 2 of 9th grade. The first game they beat Tecumseh by a score of 38-13. The second game was against a very good Pierce team that won first, the girls lost by a score of 33-21. The last game, they played was against Bennington and lost a close, well played game by a score of 28-27. The girls hadn’t had the opportunity to play a lot together this year, so the girls played very well under those circumstances.

Congratulations Girls! A hard effort was given by this team all year long. The eight team bracket was played in Lincoln last Saturday and Sunday. Elmwood-Murdock took first place overall. The final nail-biting game was won in an exciting overtime with a score of 20-18.

Quiz Bowl Results-CONGRADULATIONS TEAMS!!
A very competitive start by the 6th grade team gave them a very close loss in ‘sudden death overtime’ by only 5 points to Gretna. They came back with a victory against Platteview that placed them 2nd in the finals. This game the team time to relax and have fun during their ‘by’. Overall, the 6th grade team took 3rd place at the end of the day.

The 7th grade competitors didn’t get off to such a hot start against a very strong Platteview team. As one member put it, “we got slaughtered!”. The answers were just not surfacing during the game against Gretna… well, at least not at the beginning. Elmwood-Murdock at one point was behind 0-65. E-M battled back to tie with five minutes left in the competition. A few more correct answers put Gretna in the lead. Jordan Bowman answers a correct question with one minute remaining to tie the game once again. With a correct bonus answer to the question, “name three prepositions beginning with the letter ‘B’”, E-M’s answer of “beginning, below, and beneath” gives them the victory. John Wagoner commented, “a slow start on that one”. Brent Kuhlman agreed, “that was a close one!”
The third competition by the 7th grade was a near complete shut out against Conestoga with the opponent only scoring one question and one bonus correctly . Again, Kuhlman and Wagoner were enthusiastic with encouragement to the team, “you guys really smoked ’em.” And, “you were really on it, keep ’er goin’” Due to the first loss, the 7th grade was seeded fourth. They came back to place second in the final round of the overall competition losing to Gretna.

The 8th grade competitors just couldn’t get into the groove. Despite their hard efforts the day just didn’t pan out as well for them as the hoped to expect. The three initial losses put them in a hard spot as they were seeded sixth. They just weren’t able to battle back for any victories, but put forth a hard effort in each contest.

Top o' the mornin' to you

St. Patrick's Day honors St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. We celebrate St. Patrick's Day on March 17. Americans march in parades, dance the Irish jig and gather to sing Irish songs. People wear green in memory of Ireland, the Emerald Isle and wear shamrocks, clover with three leaves.
March 17 was not the day St. Patrick was born but the day he died. Even though we don't know the date of his birth, most scholars believe the year was 385 AD and the year of his death was 461 AD.
St. Patrick was born in Wales, studied religion to become a priest and then went to Ireland to teach the people about God. There are many wonderful stories about St. Patrick, some true and some not true. The most famous legend is that he drove the snakes out of Ireland. This did not happen but the Irish will tell you that you cannot find a snake throughout the whole country of Ireland.
Leprechauns are little make-believe fairies that live in Ireland. They are the shoemakers for the fairies. The story is that if you catch one you can make him tell you where he hides his gold. No one has caught one yet....but start looking today!! Good luck!!

St. Patrick’s Day recipes

Jiggly Shamrocks

Prepare a pan of Jello Jigglers following the package directions. Use lime gelatin. Cut shamrocks out of set gelatin using shamrock cookie cutters. Using a can of whipped cream, squirt cream in middle of shamrock and decorate with gold cake-decorating sprinkles!

Shamrock Pudding

2 1/4 cups milk
3 T cornstarch
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. vanilla
Green food coloring to desired color

Scald two cups milk over double boiler. Mix cornstarch, sugar and salt together. Add 1/4 cup cold milk to dry ingredients. Stir until smooth. Add to hot milk and cook 15 minutes until mixture thickens, stirring often. Cool slightly and add vanilla. Chill. Top with cream if desired.

MAGIC LEPRECHAUN PIE

This is a recipe that the children can easily help with! Mix milk with pistachio pudding mix according to directions. Add Cool Whip and mix well. Let the children spoon the mixture into individual graham cracker crusts for little pies they will love. Refrigerate about 30 minutes.

And don’t forget the Corned Beef & Cabbage!
