What’s Happening Around Our Community
Roger “Buck” Receives Award
Roger Buck was named Nebraska Bow Hunter of the Year by the Nebraska Bow Hunters Association. Roger was not able to attend the banquet due to his desire to attend the State Basketball Championship game last Saturday.
Dianne said they were all packed and loaded with coolers, clothes, food, and Roger’s bow hunting paraphernalia, but he couldn’t stand the thought of missing those boys playing for the State Championship.
Diane said, “Those kids are so important to him”. After the game against Ponca Friday night Roger said, “there’s no way we’re going (to Kearney)”, so they turned around and came home.
Diane made a call to their daughter, Brandi, and son-in-law, Lance. They had left earlier Friday and were all the way to Grand Island. Dianne thought they could accept the award on Roger’s behalf. This has been an annual family event for many years, but they too turned around and came back home so they could attend this once in a life time game.
Roger has belonged to the National Bow Hunters Association and attended the convention since 1985. The convention has been a wonderful time for his whole family each year. Diane said they have a lot of activity throughout the weekend from auctions, photo contests, awards, dinner, to a trophy wall of deer heads. The final grand finale event is the presenting of the Nebraska Bow Hunter of the Year Award.
Roger received a surprise phone call to accept the award over speaker phone while he was at the after game celebration at Round the Bend. He was very shocked and honored and could hardly believe it.
Diane said Roger is very deserving of the award. Roger has reached out to the community for many years and he is responsible for bow hunter education here.
CONGRADULATIONS ROGER BUCK!!!
