Murdock Residents Travel Abroad
Cari & Ken Glantz tell about their dream come true experience:
"A lot has happened in the last year but I'll try to keep it short. Last December I spent a week in London and New Year's Eve in Edinburg, Scotland with five good friends. I fell in love with England and decided to study abroad....something I'd wanted to do for a long time. I finally worked up the courage, applied, and was accepted to the University of Kent in Canterbury. Before leaving, I finished up my public relations internship with Independent Insurance Agents of Nebraska. I also ended my 5.5 year job at the Mahoney State Park lodge restaurant. I have continued to stay active in Silver Wings, a service organization on campus, throughout the year. I left August 1st to travel around the UK with my friend Nicole. Highlights: London, Bath, Stonehenge, Stratford-upon-Avon, castle ruins, Loch Ness boat ride, train travel through the Highlands, and the Military Tatoo Festival ( a display of military bands ) in Edinburgh. I then spent nearly three weeks in Canterbury exploring the city and nearby towns. Most days were spent in the city centre, at the cathedral where I attended services, or relaxed in the park. I also traveled to Leeds Castle, Dover, and a few small coastal towns. Once Dad arrived from across the pond, I spent the week playing tour guide and showing him the best parts of England and Scotland. After staying at hotels, I finally moved into the dorms and started classes at the end of September. I have been studying International Marketing, Marketing Research, and reading Canterbury Tales and other works of Chaucer in my English class. I took a weekend trip to Paris visiting the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Arc de Triumphe, and Notre Dame. My time here has been amazing and I have loved this experience. .... " (Cari returned December 19th with all of her Christmas shopping completed at the markets in the United Kingdom and France. She really did have her dream come true. Her class papers were due in mid-January via e-mail, then the grades will be sent to Butler University and converted into the American grading scale. She is expecting to receive them in mid-March.) She made several everlasting friendships and has hundreds of pictures which she hasn't had time nor money to develop yet. But they will be organized into a scrapbook she got for Christmas.
Ken Glantz, Cari’s father, spent the month of September traveling in England and Europe. He and Cari visited places in England and Scotland. Then he went to Holland, France, Switzerland, and German with a tour group for 10 days. The third week was spent in Basel, Switzerland with our former exchange student Lars Jamke and his wife and baby son. He ended his trip with a weeklong visit to Bad Segeberg, Germany to stay with Lars' parents, Helga and Harro Jamke. This was an opportunity of a lifetime especially for a history teacher.
ELMWOOD-MURDOCK VS. LOUISVILLE IN 3RD ANNUAL OMAHA SHOOTOUT
On Monday, January 15, 2007, the Elmwood-Murdock and Louisville Public Schools received an invitation from the director of the Omaha Shootout, Mr. Keith Pickett, to move their boys’ varsity basketball game to the Qwest Center in Omaha as one of the six games to be featured in the 3rd Annual Omaha Shootout. The Omaha Shootout is held to spotlight the top teams and players in Nebraska and from around the country. The 2007 Omaha Shootout will be played on Saturday, February 10, 2007, with the Elmwood-Murdock vs. Louisville game scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off. This will replace the originally scheduled February 16, 2007, date for the contest. The Elmwood-Murdock Public School is honored to be invited to this event.
In order to make this event possible, a great deal of re-scheduling of events needed to take place. The Elmwood-Murdock vs. Mead boys’ and girls’ junior varsity and varsity basketball games originally scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2007, have been moved to Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at Murdock. Parents Night will be held between the boys’ and girls’ varsity contests on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, instead of the originally scheduled date of February 10, 2007. The Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Tournament scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. February 10, 2007, has been cancelled for 2007. Please mark your calendars concerning these adjustments
Two kinds of tickets -- $16 reserved (courtside seating) and $7 student general admission – are available for purchase at the Murdock School site. A third type of ticket, $11 general admission ticket, will be available on game day at the Qwest Center Box Office. The $7 student general admission ticket (good for high school, junior high or elementary students) is available only in advance of the event at the participating schools. Students who purchase tickets the day of the contest will have to purchase an $11 general admission ticket. The purchase of any ticket allows you admission for all six games scheduled for the Omaha Shootout on Saturday, February 10, 2007. You will be allowed to leave and re-enter the Qwest Center during the day as long as you have your hand stamped at the door before you leave. Checks for payment of tickets should be made payable to the Elmwood-Murdock Public Schools.
As stated earlier, this will be a once in a lifetime experience for our players and coaches. Being selected as one of twelve teams who will have the opportunity to play at the Qwest Center this year is a tremendous honor. I know our communities will support our players and actively participate in this exciting event. Any questions regarding this event should be directed to Dan Novak at 867-2341.
