The Elmwood-Murdock 7th grade girls team finished with a record of 8-4 and placed 3rd in the A division of the league tournament. Coach Dwyer thought that might be as high as an E-M girls team has ever finished in an A division league.

Twin River Tournament Results

The 7th grade girls basketball team completed a very successful Twin River League season with a 3rd place finish in the Twin River League A Division tournament on January 6-7.

The girls entered the tournament as the #3 seed and had to play the #2 seed, North Bend, in the first game. The game was back and forth and the Lady Knights had a 3 pointer about go in at the end of the game that would have won it for them, the final score was North Bend winning 27-24. In the second game we defeated Waverly by a score of 30-22. The girls played aggressive and were able to hang on for the win.

On Sunday, the girls played a very good Louisville team. The game was tied at halftime, but the Lady Knights played a great second half and pulled away for an easy 25-11 win. We did a real good job of rebounding and that was the difference in the game. In a semi-final game, they played the #1 seeded Blair Bears. The Lady Knights fought hard, but too many turnovers, and tired legs were the difference in the game. The Bears defeated the Lady Knights by a score of 34-18.

The girls finished with a 8-4 record with their only losses coming to North Bend and Blair, two very large schools. The girls played very hard all season and made some great strides that will help them for the coming junior high season.

As he told the girls after the Blair game Sunday, “I was very satisfied in the way the season went. I thought if we finished 4-4 in the regular season, that would be good. Especially playing the larger schools that were in the league. Our only losses were to Blair and North Bend, which only lost to each other in the season also. This should serve as a great "springboard" into the junior high season. We just need to get more aggressive and confident in ball handling and shooting, and maybe each of the girls to grow to about 5'10”

The Murdock Moderns annual Christmas party was held Friday December 29, 2006. It was held at the home of member Susan Ervin who lives in the former Farmhouse bed and breakfast. There were eleven members present including Shirley Bornemeier, Donna Clement, Debbie Gilbert, Julie Fischer,, Connie Josoff, Ramona Oehlerking, Linda Pauli, Susan Platt, Cecily Ricard, Charlotte Slaby and Connie Stock. The evening started with a potluck dinner. When it comes to cooking and baking these women are passionate. There is nothing better than homemade food, made with love. For entertainment, each member brought a generic gift for exchanging. The fun part was how to distribute them. Connie Josoff came up with a modified version of bingo. If they didn't like the looks of the gift they chose, they had the opportunity to steal. That is, if you won a game. A call was made to Donna Zuckerman, a past member, so that the whole group could say hello and wish her a Happy New Year over a speaker phone. She was very happy to hear from the group, but doesn't plan on leaving Florida to visit during the winter months. Yes, they were all jealous! The night concluded with fabulous desserts and cookies, coffee, and great conversation. They now know all the gossip in the Elmwood-Murdock area that includes; who's pregnant, who's getting married and who's been under the weather. A good time was had by everyone in attendance. If you are interested in joining this fun group of women, they would love to have you. The next meeting is January 11. Andy Stock is going to be the guest speaker and he will be presenting his trip to Russia. For more information you can e-mail Debbie Gilbert bigdebs@hotmail.com
